Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq heaped praise over Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma for scoring his eighth Test hundred against England on Saturday.
After a long wait, Rohit achieved his first overseas Test hundred since he made his debut in 2013. The opener stood tall and scored 127 from 256 balls, his innings included 14 fours and a six.
Everyone is aware that Rohit Sharma is one of the best stroke players in the business: Inzamam-ul-Haq

“Rohit Sharma played a brilliant knock, he deserved this hundred. He has displayed amazing temperament throughout the series. The day belonged to Rohit Sharma. Everyone is aware that he is one of the best stroke players in the business. However, he saw off the new ball with patience and, once he got set, he started playing his shots,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.
Rohit had missed a couple of chances in this series to reach a three-digit score and finally in the 64th over he brought up his much-awaited hundred with a six off Moeen Ali’s bowling. Inzamam lauded Rohit for his confidence in his shot and called him a team player.
“The six he hit to get to a hundred demonstrated the amount of confidence he has in his ability. The stroke also demonstrated that he could have hit out earlier if he wanted but he played as per the requirements of the team. Rohit Sharma adapted himself brilliantly to score his 8th Test hundred. According to me, this was the best innings of Rohit Sharma’s Test career,” Inzamam said.
KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma’s partnership set the base for India as they nullified the threat of the new ball: Inzamam-ul-Haq
Earlier in the match, Rohit alongside his opening partner KL Rahul forged an 83-run stand to pave the way for the team for a commanding total.
“KL Rahul’s 46 also cannot be ignored. Rohit Sharma and Rahul featured in a wonderful opening stand. The partnership set the base for India as they nullified the threat of the new ball, which has hurt India many times in the past. I have said earlier as well, when the openers came into bat on Day 2, they displayed the mindset to attack the England bowlers. They were keen on playing positive cricket and not going into their shell,” Inzamam said.
